Time & Place Triads are limited edition, tricolor watercolor palettes crafted to evoke the temporal experience of the hues & textures in a landscape. Each triad is inspired by deep observation of places I have witnessed, brought to fruition by over a decade of intensive (& ever-unfolding) pigment & material research.
These watercolors are formulated with a gum arabic binder & a precise mixture of (mostly) natural pigments & inert minerals with visual character, then harmonized into a triad of color. Each palette features one earth pigment that I foraged & processed myself.*

The Shadow Sketch Triad is inspired by broad light & long shadows reaching across sandy beaches, city sidewalks & rain slicked pavement. This palette is designed to be the perfect sketching companion with well-balanced color temperature & value.
*Beach Clay Gray- warm suede gray, color changes drastically as it dries. Wets like mud, major shrinkage & elasticity. Low tinting strength, builds some opacity. Pigment: foraged in WA, USA.
Natural Graphite- neutral iridescent gray, dilutes well to a 4H pencil tone without losing body. Wets into a greasy ooze, particles scatter & dance. Translucent but dense, mixes well with others. Pigment: natural mineral graphite.
Cool Charcoal- true black with just a touch of cool, dries with dynamic granulation. Very thirsty, drinks up water & maintains its shape well. Translucent, shades well without sucking the life out of other colors. Pigment: natural charcoal, prussian blue.
