Time & Place Triads are limited edition, tricolor watercolor palettes crafted to evoke the temporal experience of the hues & textures in a landscape. Each triad is inspired by deep observation of places I have witnessed, brought to fruition by over a decade of intensive (& ever-unfolding) pigment & material research.
These watercolors are formulated with a gum arabic binder & a precise mixture of (mostly) natural pigments & inert minerals with visual character, then harmonized into a triad of color. Each palette features one earth pigment that I foraged & processed myself.*

The Sea Stones Triad is inspired by smooth stone coastlines & the phenomenon of water lapping over everyday rocks & transforming them into precious jewels. This palette is designed with optical texture that– unlike rocks– will maintain its unique luster even when the paint dries.
*Hematite Violet- rich chocolatey violet, fine-grained particles bleed across the page. Dense & smooth when wet. Reasonably opaque, stronger than other earth colors. Pigment: foraged in MN, USA.
Tiger’s Eye Gold- flecked ancient gold, dark particles float like an oil spill and flocculate on the edges. Wets smoothly, pigments separate completely then coalesce as the pigment dries. Glowing translucency. Pigment: yellow & gold ochre, gilsonite.
Jasper Green- stormy shimmering slate green, holds its shape on the page. Needs lots of water to move, tightly packed clay. Smokey & transparent, very low tinting strength. Pigment: green earth, natural graphite.
