Time & Place Triads are limited edition, tricolor watercolor palettes crafted to evoke the temporal experience of the hues & textures in a landscape. Each triad is inspired by deep observation of places I have witnessed, brought to fruition by over a decade of intensive (& ever-unfolding) pigment & material research.
These watercolors are formulated with a gum arabic binder & a precise mixture of (mostly) natural pigments & inert minerals with visual character, then harmonized into a triad of color. Each palette features one earth pigment that I foraged & processed myself.*

The Desert Dusk Triad is inspired by the low light & shapeshifting colors of the desert, where the earth is as vivid as the sun until they greet dusk together. This palette is designed with high value contrast, truly nuanced neutral mixtures & earthy delights.
*Deep Umber- deep chocolate brown, fine-grained with dense coloration. Intensely dry & brittle, wets slightly gritty, particles hold tight then splay at wet edges. Cypriot Umbers formed beneath an ancient ocean 90 million years ago. Pigment: foraged in Cyprus.
Frosted Lilac- pale pink purple, deeper tones settle around the edges like a flower petal. Becomes pale & opaque as it dries, imparts a soft hazy tint on other colors. Pigment: purple ochre.
Terracotta- radiant orangish red, unglazed ancient terracotta rearing up from the dirt. Glowing, growing warmth from masstone to undertone. Wets & paints out silky smooth & unctuous. Pigment: red & gold ochre.
